Oscars 2013 Fashion Recap and Trends

Let's talk about last night's Oscars, or better yet, what the stars wore to the annual show! The stars were out to shine on the famous red carpet this year, some more than others and some should have re evaluated their fashion choices, but overall, the celebrities dressed to impress. I noticed many trending elements such as strapless gowns, sheer lace and metallic elements.  Below, I have summarized my thoughts on certain looks from last night, from the gowns to makeup and hair choices during this awards show.

Jessica Chastain's strapless blush gown by Giorgio Armani is the epitome of red carpet glamour. Her simple gown manages to be a show stopper, covered with white sequins, crystals, and copper embellishments, her custom gown is a show stopper. Jessica kept it glamorous with Hollywood soft waves,  and a bold red lip.

Another fan of the pastel/blush tones was Amy Adams in a strapless lavender Oscar De La Renta gown. I would be fearful of this lavender shade washing her pale skin out, however, with the added ruffles flowing to the bottom, she pulled of this whimsical dress with a smile.

I now realize why everyone is obsessed with Jennifer Lawrence. She looked drop dead gorgeous in this Dior Haute Couture number! It fits her like a glove, and I'm glad to hear there was not a single wardrobe malfunction from Ms. Lawrence in this award show, despite her falling to receive her award. The woman can brush off anything. Major props!

This pale pink satin Prada gown isn't quite what I would expect Anne Hathaway to wear to the Oscars. She has a great body, therefore I believe she should have picked a dress with a bit more oomph (something special), perhaps a gown hugging her in the right places. I think she has the potential to pull off an ultra feminine gown.

Georgina Chapman looked glowing and polished in her flowing white Marchesa gown. She accentuates her baby bump perfectly with the jewel-encrusted bolero and her pulled back hair is neutral enough to balance out the sparkle focus on her shoulders.

Charlize Theron pulled off a bold white, dramatic Dior Couture gown. The fierce neckline and peplum shape around her hips gives it an edgy look, perfectly matching her edgy haircut.

Naomi Watts rocked an Armani PrivĂ© gown exposing a bold cut out, bringing a new meaning to a 'one shoulder' gown. The exposure of the upper left area of her chest is daring, yet she makes it work perfectly because she covered up her bottom half. It's the right balance of skin exposure and sparkle for the red carpet.

Nicole Kidman wore a L'Wren Scott gown, but this one was my least favorite of the night. This gown has too much going on, from the shiny, unflattering fabric at the hips, to the large metallic, mermaid like swirls sinking to the bottom (of the ocean). Sorry, Nicole!

Overall, I think it's a tie for the best dressed this year - Jessica Chastain and Naomi Watts. While Jessica's look showed more of an old Hollywood glam inspiration, Naomi wore a modern, metallic and overall fabulous gown. Who was your favorite?
